reFraming death

design your own tarot card

RWS death card

*no experience needed

For most of us, we were taught to fear death. And the death card coming up in a tarot reading can be scary. In reality, this card is about rebirth, transformation, and change.

For this community art project, we invite you to draw your own death card. There are a few formatting rules, but besides that, let your imagination go wild. Download the digital templates to get started or check out the size ratio for physical pieces.

Don’t forget to submit your design to us! We will print zines of the collective designs for the Lunatic Ball on June 8th. All artists who submit will receive a copy of the zine and a discount on extra copies.

Submissions due by May 31st!

Rules for Tarot Card Submissions:

  1. Must use only black and white.

  2. The design must go inside the tarot card frame provided. Digital downloadable templates are available. If you prefer to work physically and scan your image for submission, the template is based on an 11”x19” design.

  3. There are only a few things prohibited.
No AI art, phobic art, or stolen art.

Tips for Getting Started

  • Ask yourself how you see death. As an end, a beginning, a rebirth, a regeneration?

  • How does society tell us to view death?

  • What do you WANT death to be like?

  • Search to see how different tarot decks design the death card for inspiration.

  • Look to the arts - read poems about death, look at art, listen to music. See how others have interpreted this transition.

  • Meditate with the blank page in front of you. See what comes up.

  • Ask friends and family how they imagine death as a being. Is it a person? A door? A pathway? An animal? A color?

  • Relax and have fun! This is all a curious adventure.
